Chargers Cowboys 17-7
Running back Danny Woodhead scored an 8 yards touchdown in his very first game since September, and the Chargers, whose owner has angered San Diego fans exploring options for the franchise to move to Los Angeles, Chargers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 17-7 in the opening of the preseason.
Woodhead found a huge gap in the poorly rebuilt offensive line to put the Chargers ahead 7-0 midway through the first quarter. Branden Oliver scored a second touchdown (10 yards) before halftime, Woodhead had suffered a broken ankle which ended his season prematurely in his third game last year.
Bears Dolphins 27-10
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill destroyed another freshly rebuilt defense, throwing a touchdown on the opening drive of the game for the Miami Dolphins, the team was leading the scoreboard at the start of the second half, when the Bears came back for a 27-10 victory setting up the beginning of the season for both teams.
The Bears took advantage of two interceptions to set up for a touchdown and a field goal that gave them their 10-point lead early in the fourth period, the Dolphins, who were 8-8 last season couldn’t handle the Chicago offensive, Tannehill completed 6 out of 7 passes for 56 yards, excellent effort from the quarterback although not enough to win the game.
Redskins Browns 20-17
Quarterback Josh McCown threw a touchdown pass in his debut with the Cleveland Browns and reserve Johnny Manziel ran 10 yards for a touchdown as the team wearing their brand new uniforms for the first time built an early lead before losing 20-17 against the Redskins.
McCown, was signed during offseason in an attempt to provide stability in the team’s passing yardage, with Benjamin Travis he completed a 2-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Manziel ran for 10 yards for the score in the second.
The Redskins quarterback, Robert Griffin III, completed four passes out of eight attempts for 36 yards on two possessions with the Washington starters, wide receiver Pierre Garcon dropped a long pass from Griffin for a failed touchdown, Kirk Cousins lead the comeback for the Redskins, who were down 14-3 in the second quarter, Cousins ran a touchdown and completed 12 passes out of 14 attempts for 154 yards.
