Joe VittThe New Orleans Saints Interim head coach Joe Vitt returns to New Orleans to take over the reins of a team that went 0 & 4 for the first four games under the cloud of the bountygate scandals.  Offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, who had been filling in for Vitt, who was filling in for Head Coach Sean Peyton who is suspended for the entire year thanks to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, did a good job of keeping this team together through some tough times.

Vitt attended the San Diego Chargers game in the New Orleans Super Dome on October 7 to watch Saints Quarterback Drew Brees break the long standing Johnny Unitas record of 47 games in a row in which he passed for at least one touchdown.  Brees ended up throwing for  4 TDs that day. Vitt said of the outing “I saw Sean Payton briefly after the San Diego game. We talked about family. I got to see his son Connor. That was the extent of it. I got to see Mickey Loomis and sat with him in Mr. Benson’s box when Drew broke the record.”

“Watching the game as a spectator was hard to go through.  I have been with these guys for seven years. I care very deeply for this football team” Vitt added.

Vitt and his Saints will travel to Denver to take on Peyton Manning and the Broncos on Sunday evening.   Speaking of playing at mile high stadium, Vitt commented “if you are going to take a team to Denver and play in a higher altitude, take your team up there two days in advance to adjust.  There are a lot excuses you can find to lose a game, altitude being one of them. We are going to need to have our best performance this week to beat a good football team.”

Vitt joins Arron Kromer and defensive coordinator  Steve Spagnuolo whose line stood up to be counted against Tampa Bay including a great 4 down, goal line stand in the third quarter after a 98 yard pass play put the Bucs on the Saints one yard line, first and goal.

The Saints D, which has taken its share of knocks this year, stopped them cold and Brees took over on the one. Saints fans everywhere are in hopes that Vitts return will gel the Saints into a team with at least a shot at the playoffs.
