jose bautista torontoblue jays 2017The Toronto Blue Jays shut down the New York Yankees 4-0 led by Jose Bautista and Mexican pitcher Marco Estrada who struck out five batters in seven innings of work to win for the first time in 13 starts.

For the Yankees, who have lost six of their last nine games, the recently acquired Sonny Gray took the loss despite striking out six hitters in six innings pitched.

Dominican designated hitter Jose Bautista blasted a solo home run in the seventh inning, which represented his 36th career homer against the Yankees, the most by any active player against the Bronx Bombers.

Making his second start for the Yankees, Sonny Gray (6-7) allowed three runs, two of them earned. He lacked any offensive support as New York finished 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

Meanwhile the visiting New York Mets routed the Philadelphia Phillies 10-0 to win just for the third time in the last 10 games.

Jacob de Grom struck nine batters in 6.2 inning to help the Mets get the victory, however he left the game with a right triceps bruise and his status for his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Yankees is unclear.

The Phillies’ Vince Velasquez, who was chased from the game after just one inning, took the loss as he allowed three earned runs and a walk.

First baseman Wiler Flores, third baseman Neil Walker and center fielder Michael Comforto all blasted home runs. Flores and Comforto led all Mets hitters with three RBIs each.

In Miami, the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 although they had to come back from 0-2.

In the third inning right fielder Giancarlo Stanton hit his major league-leading 39th homer of the season off Tanner Roark to give the Marlins the lead, but the Nationals fought back with two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth.

In other games, the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-6, the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the visiting Cleveland Indians 4-1 and in Milwaukee the Brewers lost their fifth consecutive game as the Minnesota Twins beat them 7-2.

Also the Cincinnati Reds rolled 10-3 to beat the San Diego Padres, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Detroit Tigers 7-5, and the St. Louis Cardinals won 8-6 over the Kansas City Royals for their sixth consecutive win.
