The New England Patriots, the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers have taken over the lead in the latest Super Bowl XLVIII odds race at 5-to-1 each. The Seattle Seahawks follow closely at 7-to-1 and then the odds drop to 12-to-1 for the Green Bay Packers and the Houston Texans. Then they go down to 14-to-1 for the Atlanta Falcons and 20-to-1 for the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants.
Surprise moves include the Indianapolis Colts dropping all the way down to 35-to-1 as handicappers believe that the Colts overachieved last season and the coming year will not be quite as rosy. Andrew Luck may have something to say about that.
Some fans and players had expectations for a better season for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but, according to the oddsmakers, the Jags are the longest shot on the Super Bowl odds board at most every major sports book.
Last years’ Super Bowl Champions, the Baltimore Ravens have made the playoffs for the past five seasons but they lost some key players in the offseason and Nevada linesmakers do not see them making such a strong showing in the upcoming season listing them at 35-to-1.
The Cincinnati Bengals continue to look better and better to the guys who set the odds. They have advanced to the postseason play for the past two years in a row and speculation is that they will be legitimate contenders next season.
The New Orleans Saints have to be one of the most intriguing wagers on the board. Their last season, marred by scandal and suspensions, was simply terrible. However, with the return of Head Coach Sean Payton and the hiring of Rob Ryan as the new defensive coordinator, the Saints appear to be ready to make a major push for Super Bowl XLVIII. Vegas has them right up there with the Giants and the Steelers to win it all.
