Gareth BaleReal Madrid and Bayern Munich will clash tomorrow at the Allianz Arena for the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal as the “Blancos” will look to get a good result like they did in 2014 when they won 4-0.

Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo will try to recover the magic they created under Carlo Ancelotti when they face their former coach in the latest chapter of the rivalry between Germans and Spaniards.

The BBC trident of Real Madrid enjoyed one of their most productive nights under the orders of Ancelotti the last time they were at the Allianz Arena, earning a very solid 4-0 victory in what became Bayern Munich’s biggest defeat in Champions League history.

For the quarterfinal match on Wednesday in Germany, Real Madrid will continue its quest become the first team in the Champions League history to win back-to-back trophies under the current format, something no team has achieved so far.

There will be extra pressure on the strikers of both teams. For Real, they will have to face the absence of defenders Pepe and Raphael Varane, while Bayern Munich will be without Mats Hummels due to an ankle problem.

Bayern Munich top scorer Robert Lewandowski should be able to play from the start despite a shoulder injury following a 4-1 win against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in the Bundesliga.

The matches between the most successful clubs in Germany and Spain have at times turned violent in the pitch, such as the time when Bayern goalkeeper Sepp Maier broke Roberto Martínez’s nose in 1976 or when Real Madrid Juanito kicked Lothar Matthaus in the face in 1987.

Bayern Munich has reached the Champions League Quarterfinals for the sixth straight season and in each of the last five years they have made it to at least the semifinals.

The Germans have won their last 16 Champions League games at home, the longest winning streak in the history of the competition. In that span, they have scored 58 goals and allowed nine. The last team that defeated Bayern Munich in its stadium was in fact Real Madrid, when it won 0-4 during the 2014 Champions League quarterfinals.
