New York BookiesIt seems like just a short while ago that New York bookies didn’t have to give much thought to any of the hometown teams, with the exception of the impressive New York Yankees. All they had to do was just sit back and collect money. Lots of loyalists would place a bet for a home team, said team would lose, and then the bettor had to pay up, lining the bookie’s pocket. The New York Mets, New York Knicks, the New York Rangers, the New York Islanders, the New York Giants, and the New York Jets all, to put it bluntly, stunk. Sure, they would have the occasional winning streak to their credit, but nothing consistent or that could be reliably bet on by New York area gamblers.  Across the bay, New Jersey teams weren’t fairing much better.

All that changed, much to the chagrin of New York bookies, when the New York Giants won the Super Bowl. It was as if their win was magic, or at least set a wildfire. All of a sudden other local teams were energized and full of hope. Sure the New York Islanders still stink but, when it comes to winning regularly, you need look no further than the New York Rangers who have become the team to beat in the NHL east. The New York Knicks, thanks in large part to Jeremy Lin, are knocking at the door of the NBA Playoffs, and Syracuse is all set to make a strong showing in the March Madness tournament.

While all this is great for New Yorkers, it isn’t the best for New York bookies. Whereas before they didn’t have to try very hard to bring in the big bucks, now they are left sweating every game and constantly paying out. They have taken the losing ways of the New York teams for granted for so long that many bookies have just been cruising on auto-pilot.

There is hope, however, for the New York bookies. First of all, if they aren’t up to speed with the successes of these organizations they need to start making some adjustments. The best way to do this is by signing up with a good pay per head service. Once they’ve done that, they need to start getting their clients involved in other types of sports betting and other general types of gambling as well, like casino play. This will bring in more clients and thus more money, plus it’ll help them to generate more revenue from current clients and offset the money they’re paying out on winning tickets.
